Recently, DESWA was screened at the 41st International Film Festival of India in Goa. Starting the filmi career with DESWA is the lead actor of the movie Kranti Prakash Jha, who talked with bhojpuriyacinema.com on DESWA and his future plans...
Please tell us about your career, how did you go along and took acting as a career ?
I started off my modeling career with Grasim Mr. India and consequently did quite a few major ad campaigns which include Raymonds, LIC, Nokia, Maruti etc. At the same time I started getting involved in theatre and other performance based activities. I am still involved with groups like "Actor's Cult" and "Avikal." I am currently performing a play called "Aao Saathi Sapna Dekhen" which has been directed by National Award winner Swanand Kirkire.
How did you get a chance to act in DESWA?
I have known the producer, Neetu Chandra and director, Nitin Chandra for a long time and I was really thrilled when they approached me and asked me to audition for the role. I guess I must have done something right to have got an opportunity to work in a significant film like "Deswa".
What is your role in DESWA and what it is all about?
It's about a guy who wants to do something for his "des". He feels an obligation to his native place and for the society at large. How he goes about doing that is what the story of "DESWA" is all about. Deswa could be set anywhere, it is a story about all of us who want to go back to their roots and give back to the society, the place where they belong!
How was the experience working with Nitin Chandra, the director of the movie?
As I said earlier, that I have known Nitin as a friend for a long time and I always suspected that he had aspects to his personality which I was not aware of and true to my belief I was shocked to see Nitin transform into a totally into a hardcore, professional director on the set. He is so focused on what he does and what he wants that it is a great challenge to meet his expectations. A film like DESWA comes with its own set of unique challenges which can frustrate even the most seasoned of directors. Nitin never ever lost his cool - even in the most demanding of situations. It has also been a great learning experience for me.
What is your dream role?
I believe that acting is a privilege because it is only an actor who gets to live many lives, portraying different characters living under different conditions. I dream of playing roles that would influence the youth of this country and leave a positive impact on them - like the one I have played in Deswa.
What are your upcoming projects?
I have completed a Hindi film called "Vikalp", which should be releasing soon.
